Chris Nye

executive chef

Chris Nye began learning his way around the kitchen at a very young age, when he and his brother would cook dinner for their family once a week. It was then that he fell in love with the joy of cooking for others and getting to watch them enjoy it.

At Spoon and Stable, Chris prides himself on finding the best local and regional produce, and allows it to inform the menu. Chris sees each season as an opportunity to revisit dishes and ingredients and use them in new and interesting ways, building his vision of Minnesota cuisine from the roots up.

In 2014, Chris moved back home to the Twin Cities after several years in the Washington DC area to join Chef/Owner Gavin Kaysen to open Spoon and Stable. Chris originally cooked for Gavin at Café Boulud in New York, and serendipitously planned to move back to Minneapolis at the same time. The opening chef de cuisine, Chris has grown to help lead the kitchen now as executive chef, where he enjoys investing energy into the staff and helping other chefs develop.

When he’s not working, Chris loves to spend time with his wife and their two young children.
